Archipelago Cafe embodies Edinburgh’s combination of local charm and big city feel.
A little bakery nestled in between a vintage shop and cashmere store on Dundas Street (could there be anything more Scottish), Archipelago has everything your local bakery should offer.
Their wide selection is paired with a strong support for local industries and use of organic ingredients. Archipelago is committed to fresh produce; they have daily lunch specials with fresh veggies, a selection of breads baked daily, and a variety of pastries and cakes.
In keeping with Edinburgh's small town charisma, Archipelago changes their selection each day. Whether it’s salads full of succulent fruits and vegetables or creamy hummus with dense sourdough toast, their specials never fail to disappoint.
The menu always includes classics as well as inventive new recipes. Their carrot cake is to die for and their almond blueberry loaf is perfect with tea on a rainy afternoon.
Their bread is completely natural and organic; Archipelago actually ships in its flour from an artisan mill in the Cotswolds to ensure the best quality for its customers.
Archipelago has an enormous tea selection and makes their coffee with excellent Brazilian/Colombian blend coffee beans.
They are also famous amongst students for their incredible vegan options. Every saturday morning I make sure I arrive early to get their insane vegan cinnamon buns which are honestly on par with the amazing non-vegan cinnamon buns I’ve had in Edinburgh (check out the Bearded Baker).
