Chök The Chocolate Kitchen

Writer: Olivia BiaseOlivia Biase

Barcelona institution puts Dominique Ansel to shame.

If you’re in barcelona - and have even the slightest sweet tooth - you’ve probably heard of Chok. Also known as “the chocolate kitchen,” the spanish dessert chain has a very scandinavian feel.

The minimal decor and modern displays highlight the craziness and color of their desserts. In one of their shops donuts are mounted on the wall, in another there’s a glass window revealing the bakers at work.

Their specialty is their cronut style donut, which they call a gourmet donut.” They’ve developed the recipe to create light, flakey donuts, and dozens of varieties as well. Some are filled with nutella, covered in oreos, and even decorated with pink and purple frosting.

They also make cakes, cookies, and straight up chocolate for those who haven’t given in to the cronut craze.

We split two different cronuts while we were there. I have no idea what was in them - some combination of chocolate, nutella, and cookies - but we went back the next day to get another. They were that good.

If you’re wandering on Las Ramblas or simply in need of your sweet fix for the night, drop by one of Chok’s many locations around Barcelona.
